Sylvia Hamilton Goulden will be our demonstrator this month. Sylvia is an award-winning artist exploring movement, energy and emotion, expressed through the mediums of watercolor, acrylic, monotype, collage, assemblage, mixed media, and video. At our meeting this month, she will focus on collage/mixed media.
As Sylvia works on a piece demonstrating the process, you will be introduced to different types of glues and mediums and the techniques for applying them, plus the various grounds and collage materials that can be used.
In creating collage, you can work on any sturdy ground of any size: matte board, canvas, watercolor paper, cardboard, or board. And these grounds can be coated with different mediums, such as gesso, gel, or acrylic paint. Collage materials include magazines pages, pieces of interesting papers, painted pieces of paper, ephemera, fabric, recognizable items, and more 'stuff,' all of various textures, shapes, color, designs, color values.
Enjoy this chance to explore an art form that may be new to you. And don't forget to bring a snack to share, and a new piece of art for the mini-show!
